Caprio builds up his war chest
Meanwhile, state Sen. Frank T. Caprio, D-Providence, declared Friday, in paperwork filed with the state Board of Elections, that he now has $317,218 on hand to wage a campaign for state treasurer.
The sum includes a $200,000 loan from the senator's own pocket, as well as $117,173 Caprio said has been raised through "a lot of calling" and "some small [fund-raising] events."

Caprio promised to follow it up with "a string of events scheduled now for the next three months to continue our goal of having the resources to run a serious, statewide campaign."

Caprio estimated such a race would cost $800,000.
"To have $300,000 after three weeks, I think, is moving in the right direction," he said.
