Caprio enters race for state treasurer post; [All Edition] The Providence Journal. Providence, R.I.: Mar 8, 2005. pg. B.03

PROVIDENCE - State Sen. Frank T. Caprio announced yesterday that he had filed paperwork with the Board of Elections to begin raising money to run for general treasurer in next year's election.
Caprio, 38, a Providence Democrat, said he intended to mount a "serious challenge" for the post. The current treasurer, Paul Tavares, cannot run again because of term limits.

Caprio graduated from Bishop Hendricken High School and from Harvard University with a major in economics. He earned his law degree from Suffolk University in 1991, and practices at his family's firm in Providence.
A state senator since 1995, he serves as chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Housing and Municipal Government. He also served as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee from 2000 to summer 2002, when he was stripped of the post over disputes with then-Senate President William V. Irons.
Caprio's father, also named Frank, is chief municipal court judge in Providence and chairs the state Board of Governors for Higher Education. The senator's brother, David, is a Democratic state representative from Narragansett.
